Hi, my name is Christian ... and I am with Del Arroyo 4-H. The favorite activity I did in 4-H this year is helping out at the Veterans Hospital . At Christmas time, I helped put decorations in the main hospital. On New Years Eve I went to a party and helped serve the Veterans food and drinks. After I was done serving I hung out with my friend, Mr. Gregory. Met him three years ago at the New Year's Eve party. After the New Years I went back and helped take down the decorations from Christmas and New Years.

I worked at the VA hospital hanging up decorations and taking them down. It was really fun, but it was sometimes hard taking down the trees. I did get to eat donuts and drink juice. That was the fun part! By Caitlin

Food Preservation Project Report

By Nathan

On January 14, I attended a food preservation project class. It was fun. I made canned pickles by placing either sliced or whole cucumbers into jars. I then added the appropriate seasonings that I was permitted to select. There was a variety of seasonings to choose from. In 2 weeks the pickles will be ready to eat! Until then, they must remain in the refrigerator.

About a week ago I went to a cake decorating class and we started out with sugar cookies and I/we used a funnel with different shaped heads plus pink and green frosting to make designs, decorations. It was fun! By Shelby

Entomology

Hi my name is Hannah. I am in the entomology project. My mom is my teacher. I got to make my own bug. This is what I used, PlayDoh, puffies, sticks and goggle eyes. It was fun.

Pet Show

Hi. My name is Michelle and I got to take my bunny to the pet show in the summer. It was at the Alameda County Fair. I was the first to show my bunny and then my sister was next. My bunny is black and white. He is dwarf Dutch. I took up my bunny to the vet. He said that my bunny was healthy and well. He said that I had to feed my bunny carrots, salad and pellets. It was fun. I got a Blue Ribbon!

Tri Valley Youth Food Drive is being planned for Saturday, April 29. We need a chair, advisor and members to participate. This is similar to Scouting for Food except all food collected goes to our local food pantries. Volunteers are assigned an area based on preference and availability; size of area is determined by the ages and number of volunteers. Youth volunteers only need to deliver the collection bags provided to them during the week before the food drive and collect the food on the 29 th of April and drop it at the Tri Valley Haven. Please sign up at our CC Meeting.

NEW LEADER ORIENTATIONS are scheduled as follows:

Monday, February 6, 7:00 pm at the Farm Bureau, Enos Way , Livermore

Monday, April 3, 7:00 pm at the Farm Bureau, Enos Way , Livermore

Monday, May 8, 7:00 pm at the Farm Bureau, Enos Way , Livermore

New leader orientation is mandatory for all adults to become certified and you only need attend once. Soon 4-H will adopt a ‘2 deep leadership' requirement for all 4-H activities, including project meetings and community service activities, therefore, I would like to have all adults register and become certified leaders. Spouses of project leaders especially should become leaders so that they can be the second certified adult during project meetings held in the home. To become a leader you must complete a registration form (get from Margaret), complete live scan (Margaret has this form also) and attend a new leader orientation. You can attend a new leader orientation and complete your registration form afterwards. Alameda County Leader Council will reimburse you for the cost of your live scan.

STATE EXCHANGE is looking for 4-H families to host out of state 4-Hers and chaperons this summer for about a week. Call Patrick Colglazier at 510-490-6655 if you are interested in helping.
