Community Club Meeting: Wednesday, November 15, 6:30 pm, Smith School, 391 Ontario DriveWe will have a potluck dinner prior to our meeting and New Member Orientation.

                   Potluck dinner – Everyone bring a main dish plus the following:

                             Last Names A – K    dessert

                             Last Names L – Z    salad

                   Bring serving utensils for your dishes and your own plates and silverware.

4-H SKATE NIGHT was a huge successMany of our members and parents participated, wore costumes, won prizes, and had a great timeIf you didn’t attend this year, be sure to plan for it next yearIt’s fun for the entire familyFor those who did attend, it is Item 3 on your new PDR Form.

CAL CONFERENCE applications are due to Carol Crossett at the county 4-H office by November 17. Be sure to include half the fee, $70.00 (the county pays the other half) and $10.00 for a t-shirtThis conference is recommended for 7th through 9th gradersCall Margaret 447-6980 to get your application now.

The next LEADER ORIENTATIONS will be Tuesday, November 14, and December 4, both at 7:00 pm at the Farm Bureau Building, LivermoreRemember, all adults must be fingerprinted and attend an orientation to be a certified leader and this is very important with the implementation of 2-deep leadership.

SKIT NIGHT, “4H and the Super Heroes,” is starting to shape upWe have an adult advisor, Christy Ruzicka, and now need youth chairs and members to participatePlease sign up for this fun activity; it earns many credits on your PDR form.

Del Arroyo 4-H has been approved for fundraising through Albertsons Community Partners programYou can register your Albertsons Preferred Savings Card and we can earn up to 4% of all purchasesThis club made a conscious decision several years ago not to do any youth fundraising (selling wrapping paper, candy bars, pies, etc.), because they seem to have so many between school, band, and sports activitiesThis is an easy way to raise money for our club without selling anythingPlease get an enrollment form at our CC Meeting for yourself, your friends and neighbors, and your extended family. 

COMMUNITY SERVICE

THANKSGIVING is right around the corner and preparations for the Livermore Community Thanksgiving Dinner are underwayWe have been asked to help provide olives, pickles, and dessertsPlease bring your olive and pickle donations to the November CC MeetingDesserts can be delivered to the old Recreation Center, corner of 8th and H Streets, after 6:30 pm on Wednesday, November 22.

          Help is also needed to sort canned food donations and setting up and decorating on Wednesday, November 22 at 7:00 pm at the old Recreation Center.

          Help is needed for clean up and return of borrowed items Friday, November 24, 10:00am,.

          Sign up sheets for set up and clean up will be at our November CC Meeting.

          If you want to work on Thanksgiving Day, sign up at the meeting on Wednesday, November 8, 7:00 pm at the Recreation Center or contact Beth Moore at 292-8722.

CHRISTMAS is also fast approachingWe will again be sponsoring the Children to Children Holiday PartyLast year we had over 800 attendees, many of whom have no holiday celebration besides this partyWe need donations of new, unwrapped gifts for children age 0 to 18 yearsWe will have at least 12 ‘Make-it and Take-it’ craft tablesDonations of tape, 6” and under pine cones, mistletoe, and all size gift bags are neededIf you have pinecones or mistletoe please let Margaret 447-6980 know immediately so we can plan for craft tables for them.

          Sorting and wrapping of presents will be on Saturday, December 2, beginning at noon at Del Valle High School on 5th StreetBring your own scissorsWith enough hands we should be finished in 2 - 3 hours.

          The party will be on Saturday, December 9 in the Student Union at Livermore High SchoolHelp is needed from 9:00 am to 5:00 pmGuests are scheduled to start arriving at 9:30 amWe can use your help whether you can spare an hour or the entire dayMembers and adults are needed to man the craft tables, refreshments, set up and clean up, etcWe have a large number of Hispanic guests and could use some bilingual adults at the check-in tablesPlease sign up at our November CC Meeting.

          All donations should be brought to the November CC Meeting or delivered to Miller’s, 1435 Heidelberg Drive, by December 1.

          We would like each family to bring two dozen cookies to the partyYou can drop them off at 1435 Heidelberg Drive through December 8 if you are unable to come to the partyPlease sign up for cookie donations at the CC Meeting.

LIVERMORE VETERANS HOSPITAL:

Help will be needed to put up Christmas decorationsThe date for putting up decorations is Saturday, December 2, 9:30 amTake down is January 6 at 9:30 amSign up for helpers will be at the CC Meeting.

          We will make a holiday item for the Veterans at our December CC MeetingWe need a group to carol at the convalescent unit and distribute what we makeSign up will be at our CC Meeting and the chair can choose the day they wish to carolAny evening at 6:30 is suggested.

QUILTS TO VA HOSPITAL - help deliver donation of quilts to veterans on Thursday, December 7 at 5:00 pmThis will take less than an hourSign up at CC Meeting.

CAROLING FOR THE ELDERLY will be December 11 and 18, practices will be November 7 and December 4Sign ups will continue at our CC Meeting.

TRI-VALLEY YOUTH FOOD DRIVE is again asking for our help in distributing bags and collecting foodAll food collected in this drive stays in this valleyThe drive will take place Saturday, April 21Bags can be distributed any time during the prior weekThey need to know about how many members will participate so they know what size area to assignA sign up will be at our December CC Meeting.

Remember - after the first of the year our committee and community service opportunities are very limited and the new record book puts a much greater emphasis on community service hours in order to qualify for star ranksNow is the time to get involved and earn those credits for Super Member and Star Ranks.


Important Notes for Members & Parents

Project Members and Parents - Please adhere to the following rules:

          1.  Arrive and depart project meetings on timeDo not be more than 10 minutes early or

                   leave more than 10 minutes late.

          2.  Attend all meetingsPut them on your calendarPhone in advance if you are unable to

                   attendRemember - you can be dropped from a project if you miss 2 meetings.

          3.  Pay the project leader promptly when notified of costs for materials.

          4.  Be on your best behavior so that you and the other members of your project get the

                   maximum benefit from each meetingUnruly or disruptive behavior will not be

                   toleratedYour Project Leaders are volunteers and deserve the utmost respect

                   and appreciation.

          Meet monthly in LivermoreLearn basic care and grooming of horsesLearn difference between horses and ponies and some breedsLearn the importance of working a horse on ground before ridingLast couple of classes will involve ridingBooks recommended, jeans required - no shorts or capris.  Horse ownership not necessary.


 At our Community Club meetings you can sign up to lead the flag salute or 4-H Pledge at an upcoming Community Club meetingThis is primarily for 1st year members and mini members, as they can take credit for a talk on their PDR Forms.

Project Leaders – periodically you might receive an updated list for your projectPlease discard your old list and use the new one, as these are issued when members are added or errors are discoveredCall Margaret 447-6980 if you have questions about an updated list.

Each family is to bring 3 dozen large cookies for the Community Club meeting they are assigned to and are to stay to help with clean upIf you find you are unable to attend the meeting that month, please call another member to either bring your refreshments for you or trade monthsPlease mark your calendar for the month you are responsible for refreshments - without your share of cookies, there will not be enough for everyoneClean up consists of putting the benches away, wiping the refreshment table, sweeping the floor and checking the rest rooms.
