WELCOME TO CLOVER CLUB HORSE PROJECT
The Clover Club 4H Horse Project is starting its second year in 2008/2009. Our goal is to be a unique and very active part of the Clover 4H Club. Tentatively we are scheduling to meet twice a month, once at the arena with our horses and the other meeting is more of a classroom style meeting. Whereas the goal of most 4-H animal projects is to bring your animal to market level within a few months to a year, our project goal is to teach our kids about horses and train the animal to perform various skills at increasingly more difficult levels over a series of years.
We welcome your participation in our project whether you have a horse or not. Although, we do not provide horses for those of you who don't have one; we encourage and will help you find someone with a horse you can lease for the year. Leasing will be discussed at the first horse meeting. Even if you do not have a horse or lease a horse, we will create learning situations for everyone, mounted or not. If you are considering purchasing a horse, I can't think of a better thing to do than to spend a couple of months coming to our meetings and asking lots of questions. The adult leaders are very active and share a love of young people and horses. Everyone here has one goal, to facilitate the unique bond that occurs between a good horse and a young rider.
Everything for the new year is in the works with our Teen and Jr. Teen Leaders. They are planning our first fundraiser that will allow us to offset various costs we will incur. They are also working on bringing in professionals from various areas of the equine profession, Veterinarians, Farrier, feed producers, trainers and judges to spend time educating our members about horses. We will be participating in clinics, various equine facility tours and will assist and show at local horse shows.
Currently we hold our arena meets at Orangevale Park Horse Arena & Twin Lakes Riding Club Arena. Our Mounted meetings are held one Saturday a month and our unmounted meetings will be on a Tuesday evening at 6pm, location pending.
You can contact me by sending an e-mail or by calling me at 916-987-1175. As you can imagine there is a lot of planning and scheduling in the works and there will be more information coming.
