Although 4-H uniforms are not required for participation in 4-H sponsored activities, they
are required for showing livestock at Fairs, and many members wear them at other events.

BOYS’ UNIFORM

- 4-H cap -- Green through Eighth Grade.
- White Shirt -- long or short sleeved, or White T-shirt with 4-H emblem (casual)
- Dark green tie with 4-H emblem
- White or off-white jeans or pants, or green or blue jeans -- Belts should be worn if pants have belt loops.
- Footwear and belts clean and/or polished.

- 4-H cap -- White for Ninth Grade & above.
- White Shirt -- long or short sleeved.
- Boys may omit the 4-H tie.
- White or off-white jeans or pants, or green or blue jeans -- Belts should be worn if pants have belt loops.
- Footwear and belts clean and/or polished - if boots are worn, they must be inside trouser legs.

GIRLS’ UNIFORM
|
- 4-H cap -- Green through Eighth Grade.
- White shirt or blouse and white skirt, or white dress of comparable design. OR
- White or off-white jeans or pants, or green or blue jeans -- Belts should be worn if pants have belt loops
- Green California 4-H Collar with circular 1-3/4” 4-H emblem on back corners of
collar. A simple white plastic or metal ring approximately 3/4” in diameter will fasten
the collar points
- Footwear and belts clean and/or polished.

- 4-H cap -- White for Ninth Grade & above.
- White skirt and blouse with or without 4-H collar. OR
- White or off-white jeans or pants, or green or blue jeans (ankle length) with white
blouse or shirt with or without 4-H collar.
- Footwear and belts clean and/or polished - if boots are worn, they must be inside
trouser legs.

UNIFORM FOR 4-H HORSE MEMBERS
|
- White or off-white western straw hat may be worn with the official 4-H uniform when
showing (unmounted) your horse at County events, such as the County Horse Show or the
County Fair. The 4-H hat must be worn at other 4-H events, such as Demonstration Day,
or also at the County Fair when showing other types of livestock. Regional or State
events require the 4-H hat, unless noted otherwise in their brochures.
- Approved safety helmet MUST be worn at all times when mounted.
- Boots and belts must be worn when exhibiting your horse.
- WESTERN SHOWMANSHIP/HALTER: Exhibitors must wear a long-sleeved white shirt
(short-sleeved is acceptable but not desirable); 4-H tie or scarf; white, blue, or
black pants; boots; belt; and 4-H hat (green for juniors, white for seniors); ASTM-SEI
approved safety helmet, or a white or off-white straw hat. Western felt hats are not
allowed. Pants are to be worn outside the boots.
- WESTERN SHOWMANSHIP/HALTER: Exhibitors must wear a long-sleeved white shirt
(short-sleeved is acceptable but not desirable); 4-H tie or scarf; white, blue, or
black pants; boots; belt; and 4-H hat (green for juniors, white for seniors); ASTM-SEI
approved safety helmet, or a white or off-white straw hat. Western felt hats are not
allowed. Pants are to be worn outside the boots.
- WESTERN PERFORMANCE: No chaps, shotguns, or one-piece western equitation suits.
Required western attire must include a long-sleeved shirt or jacket; tie, scarf, or
pin; belt; pants; western boots; and ASTM/SEI approved safety helmet. Gloves may be
worn. Vests may be worn over long-sleeved shirts. Short-sleeved or sleeveless shirts
are allowed only if worn underneath a jacket.
- ENGLISH PERFORMANCE: No chaps, one-piece equitation suits, vests, or sweatshirts
may be worn. Required English attire must include a long-sleeved shirt or hunt coat;
“rat-catcher” collar with pin or monogram; breeches or pants; belt (exception would be
with English breeches that may not have belt loops); English boots; and ASTM/SEI
approved safety helmet. Gloves may be worn. Pullover v-neck or crew neck sweaters are
allowed. Short-sleeved or sleeveless shirts are allowed if worn underneath a hunt coat.
- ENGLISH SHOWMANSHIP: Offered at the June Play Day and the Silver Buckle Pre-Classic
shows. Required English attire must include a long-sleeved white shirt (short-sleeved
is acceptable but not desirable); "rat-chatcher" collar with pin or monogram; breeches
or pants; belt (exception would be with English breeches that may not have belt loops);
and ASTM/SI approved safety helmet.
