4-H Uniforms and Hat Ettiquette


The Junior 4-H member insignia is a Green Hat with earned pin(s) and stripe(s).

When a member graduates from the Eighth Grade, he/she becomes a Senior member. The insignia is a White Cap with appropriate pin(s) and stripe(s).

Following is what the Hat should look like:

  • All Star, Gold Star, Silver Star, or Bronze Star Only the highest Star award earned is worn near the front of the cap.
  • The Hi 4-H Patch is placed behind the Star.
  • Junior or Teen Leader Patch follows the Hi 4-H. They are only worn while the member is serving as a Junior or Teen Leader.
  • The Gold Circle or Gold Triangle is worn under the Junior or Teen Leader Patch while serving as a TLA.
  • The All Star Pin should be fastened to the center of the All Star emblem.
  • Medals may be worn on either side of the Hat, but not too many of them. No other pins or ribbons should be worn on the Hat.
  • Service Stripes are worn on the right side of the hay, behind the 4-H Clover. You earn a Service Stripe for each 4-H year completed.
  • A Gold Stripe is used instead of the regular stripe for each completed year of Junior or Teen leadership.
  • Achievement Pins are fastened above Service Stripes, starting with the first year pin next to the 4-H Clover.
    Primary – Orange Stripe with Orange Pin
    Junior – White Stripe with Year Pin
    Senior – Green Stripe with Year Pin
