2009-2010 Projects

Outdoor Adventure - HikingAlso known as the Encinitas Nature Group (ENT), our group's goal is to accquaint people with nature that is in Encinitas. We go on hikes in various parts of Encinitas and learn about the different types of plants. For each hike we pick a plant or animal of the day, and learn specifically about that plant or animal. This project is for 4-Hers of all ages.  To learn more about this project click on this link: clubs.ca4h.org

Therapeutic Animals: Shares pets with nursing homes and other facilities - approved pets only, participants can use Judy Pedery-Edwards', the project leader, animals.

Poultry Group: Learning the animal husbandry of chickens, preparing for the Del Mar Fair and various other competitions in our area.

Horse and Pony Group: The horse and pony project has many events throughout the year.  Owning or leasing a horse is not required to participate in this project, but we do not have horses that project members may borrow or ride to participate in the riding events.  We will attend some of these as a group and others the members may choose to attend on their own.  Members attending with a horse must be able to handle their horse in difficult situations and/or have a parent who can do so in the event of an emergency or extended situation.

Dairy Goat Group: We will cover information about caring for dairy goats and showing them at the Del Mar Fair.

Dog Care and TrainingThis project works with dog grooming, safety, health and showmanship skills.  Members need not own a dog to participate as the Project Leader brings her trained dogs to all meetings. Once members learn basic dog handling skills, they may have the option of bringing their own dog.  For additional information on this project click visit the dog project web site
