What is 4-H?
4-H is
a youth based, volunteer, non-profit program that focuses on improving upon
today's youth by involving them in our communities and teaching them
valuable leadership skills that will help them throughout life. Our
motto, "To Make the Best Better", is something we as a club will always
strive toward in all that we do.
How does 4-H
work?
The San Bruno 4-H Club has a small farm and club room in San Bruno. The club
offers "hands-on" projects and activities, directed by adult volunteers, for
youth ages 7-19. Each youth member enrolls in the projects they are
interested in, plus they attend monthly general
meetings, fun days, farm clean-up days, and other organized club activities.
A unique aspect of 4-H is that the club is run by the youth officers and
members, so members learn leadership, good citizenship, and active
participation in governance.
What has 4-H done for San Bruno?
The San Bruno
4-H club is very active about participating in community events. We
can be seen at Operation Clean Sweep in May, the Posy Parade in June, Food
and Clothing drives throughout the year. We also encourage all our
members to exhibit project accomplishments in the San Mateo County Fair
every August and many of our projects (be they animal exhibits, or clothing
or artwork) can be seen on display in the large animal barn and 4-H exhibit
hall.
How do I find out about joining San Bruno 4-H Club?
Enrollment happens in September. Call the farm at (650)588-9549
and leave us a message with your name and number, or come visit us Sunday,
October 15 between 1pm and 4pm.
Who is running this Web site?
You're webmasters
for this site will hopefully always be youth club members. This site
was constructed by Anna (this year's president and webmaster) and will be
maintained by her and our second webmaster, Alex. They have both
attended website training at a field day at U.C. Davis along with a few
other members, so they are well qualified for the job.
