Community service: Retirement Inn of Burlingame. Thurs. 3/11 at 6:15
The Beginning 4H group will be participating in this community service project. The Inn asks that we bring some small animals that night, and would be especially interested in guinea pigs and rabbits. We will meet with the residents and show them our animals. We would like this to be an “all-club” event. Flyers will be distributed at general meeting.
Farm Boss: Jeff
- Spring cleanup/BBQ: Sat. April 3
- Farm flooding issue
- In the recent storms, an enormous amount of dirt came down the hill and filled the cul-de-sac in front of the farm. This is due to the fact that 2 creeks converge on the property Jeff has met with the city to look at options for repair. The city cleaned up the dirt from the street and dug out a hole near the lamb pens. John Barker from the city, said they may be able to help in some areas, but not with labor. Jeff will approach him with the idea of the city paying for the new pipe and hauling the dirt.
- Don Gilbert, the city engineer will be evaluating the site.
- Jeff has also been in contact with Larry Bragato, who has agreed to help where he can. The current options include:
- fill in hole with dirt and deal with the problem later
- dig out the current pipe, which is too small and put in a bigger pipe. Possibly put in a grate over the area. This will require an adult work party.
- Put in a sump pump
- The club should write a letter of thanks to John Barker for his assistance.
- The club should write donation letters to Home Depot and OK Lumber for lumber to rebuild pens. Cathie to arrange with Maddy
- The pig pens and chicken pens need repair.
Animal Project/Fair Coordinator position.
-
We discussed the importance of having this position and it should be someone who is very familiar with animal projects as well as how our animals show at the Fair. The position should be one that is responsible for the coordination of animal projects at our Farm and then continues until the Fair is over. That person would be responsible to make sure the auction is covered and all barn scheduling and maintenance is covered. Some possibilities include Mary Molacovage and Martha Moore. Cathie will contact to discuss with them.
- Cake Booth: Cathie will contact Gaye Donovan to coordinate
County Involvement
- County Council: Janae attending
- Ag Steering: We are not attending right now.
- Lifeskills & Hobbies: The group discussed certain people to volunteer to attend the last 3 meetings. Cathie will contact.
- Animal Science: Janae
Newsletter/Website:
- How to distribute the newsletter? County newsletter,“Highlights” are
sent on email with link to newsletter page. Can we do this?
Privacy issues and the Worldwide Web:
- The group decided to create a policy regarding limitations to the newsletter, since it will now be linked to our website, thus being available to anyone on the Web.
- The policy is:
- No addresses will be included in the newsletter
- First and last names CAN be used.
- No phone numbers of children under 12 will be included.
- The newsletter WILL be linked to the website.
- Cathy Somerton will send a monthly email when the newsletter is complete to all families. The email will be a reminder that includes a link to the newsletter page of the webiste. She will no longer send the newsletter as an attachment.
- Robert will be the website manager from now on. He will contact Sherry King and Cathy S.
- Cathie to request Maddy to write thank you letter to Sherry King.
Woodside Store
- The group discussed participating in this as a community service project as we did last year. It was decided that last years participation from the community was not enough for the amount of work that went into the set up. We would consider participating if it was in conjunction with a previously publicized event.
Respectfully submitted, Cathie Lohr
