About
4-H
What is 4-H?
4-H is an educational
youth development program, operating under the University of California's
Cooperative Extension (UCCE). 4-H fosters self-confidence and nurtures
leadership development, public speaking skills, and a commitment to community
service. Youth Officers run the club with oversight from volunteer leaders as
well as leading club meetings. And all club members benefit from
"learning by doing" in a fun atmosphere. Members are encouraged to
display their newfound crafts and knowledge to the club and at fairs.
Who can join?
4-H is open to all youths
from kindergarten through high school. "Primary" members are 5
years old or in Kindergarten as of January 1st of the program year.
"Regular" members must be 9 years old or in 4th grade by January
1st of the program year. Youth are eligible until the end of the calendar
year in which they turn 19 years old.
The 4-H Pledge:
I pledge
My Head to clear
thinking,
My Heart to greater
loyalty,
My Hands to larger
service,
My Health for better living,
For my club, my
community, my country, and my world.
