4-H has something for everyone!
For Kids:
The mission of the 4-H Youth Development Program is to engage youth in reaching their fullest potential. That mission springs to life through learn-by-doing activities, youth-adult partnerships, and engaging, innovative projects that:
- enhance leadership abilities
- develop life skills
- promote citizenship and social responsibility
Santa Clara County 4-H offers a broad range programs and activities that meet the needs and interests of all local youth –urban, suburban, and rural– from ages 5 though 19.

For Adults:
4-H can’t succeed without the dedication of adult volunteers who donate their time, energy, and enthusiasm to make 4-H programs come alive in their community. Our volunteer leaders see the members they work with develop into responsible, self-directed and productive members of society.

Youth Development Research
To further achieve the 4-H mission, your local 4-H Youth and Community Development Advisor advances the field of youth development by conducting applied research in the areas of Latina teen pregnancy prevention and adolescent civic leadership.
Latino Teen Pregnancy Prevention Project
This project strengthens the links between academic research related to teen pregnancy and teen pregnancy prevention programs to produce better outcomes for teens. In addition, we contribute to current youth and family development research about culturally appropriate practices for adolescent pregnancy prevention.

Adolescent Civic Leadership
This project explores adolescent leadership in the context of civic engagement. In examining how civic leadership attributes develop, we look at the knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and skills in adolescence that help make a civic leader. The project includes research, a practical tool for practitioners and training workshops.
