President's report
-request by Sibby for clarification for use of pins on cap. Vicky created a guide which was distributed. Pins questions were discussed. The guide will be posted on the web site
-sign up for meeting refreshments -> some of the clubs represented by the Exec Board members were signed up as responsible for the refreshments for full council months.
-new Fair Awards Chair (still looking for scholarships and record books) -> Donna Hampton has volunteered to be the chairperson for this committee. Welcome to the Executive Board, Donna!  Thanks for volunteering.

We still need people to participate as committee members.
- Vicky reminded us that we need to keep up with the reminders to our representatives in the state legislature about how great 4-H is and how funding for the program needs to be continued, even in these difficult financial times. It is a very economical program for the state and county to sponsor, considering all of the hours put in by volunteers.
Reports:
-CE OFFICE
Fe had a meeting in Oakland about the statewide County Extension Office budget cuts and how that would likely affect 4-H. Fe discussed her year long sabbatical. She will not be out of the area for the entire year, but will not be at the CE office on a daily basis. She passed around a flyer created by Sacramento county as their annual report. It was very well done, and could be a good example of how Santa Clara could create a similar brochure.
-SMALL ANIMAL field day -> May 2 at the San Martin Lions Club. See the web site for the brochure.
-FASHION REVIEW -> very successful: 33 members participated in the fashion revu, 10 went on to sectional. Favorite foods had 4 members participate.
-COUNTY CITZ. OVERNIGHT a.k.a. county focus. Still looking for someone to lead this activity. This is the two day event where members get a glimpse at the inner workings of Santa Clara County: government, public services, industry, research, etc. Interested leaders may contact either Trudy Jones or Deborah Lang about how to organize such an event.
- Presentation Day -> 19 members from Santa Clara County went on to Sectional Presentation Day; 5 will be going on to the State presentation day.
-MARKETING -> Steven Russell, director of the 4-H Center for Youth Development, came down from UC Davis to talk to the Marketing project about trends. Some interesting statistics were discussed: Average length of time for a member in the 4-H program is 2.5 years, no matter at what age they start. Santa Clara County follows the trends of the state-wide statistics, with the exception that our county has more younger and more older member than the state average, so our "bell curve" is more flat. Branding will be the topic at the May meeting. Tim told us that he will not be re-enrolling in 4-H next year. We will be poorer for his absence. We will miss his contributions, but are very thankful for his efforts over the past years that he has been part of our volunteer organization.
-ALL STARS -> Had a great ski trip. They also went roller skating last Sat (were rained out for the planned miniature golf game). All-Star apps had to be post marked by today. The CE office has already received quite a few applications. The date for interviews is May 4. Laura Cary's grandmother's house will be the place for the interviews. Date and place for the reception, and for judges need to be worked on still.
-KEY LEADER -> Deborah is now the Key Leader. (Lonnie needed to resign due to health issues) Community Club Leader training is going to be June 7. Packets will include the registration info for the club. Volunteer training and orientation dates will be announced soon. Deborah will be taking over for Fe (while she is on sabbatical) in certain areas, such as the Leader training sessions.  Fe asked the Exec board to allow her to use some of the monies already in the accounts that were collected for the County Program Rep to compensate Deborah. MSC to allow her to spend that money that way.
8:15 Unfinished Business
-Food Booth Committee
    headed by Marcus Daniel
clubs sign up for times to run the booth.
-Fair info? meeting for volunteers is next Monday.
-> The Fair Book is up on the web! <-
thefair.org
8:45 New Business
-on line surveys -> interesting responses to the State Leaders Council survey.
4h4u.org (the domain name) costs $30 per year. Tim has it as a personal domain name registration. He will be transferring ownership to SCC4-H CC Treasurer (Hans T.).
Exec Board grant covering the difference in the cost of Leadership Overnight versus the monies collected from participants. MSC to provide $177.05

Meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Gary R. Lang
