Leadership Overnight - 6th grade adds new dimension
Carol J.: Overall event went well. Sat. went well, but Sunday had trouble getting younger kids involved in the discussions. Deborah L. : younger members had trouble getting the point of the process of leadership.
Vicky B.: some history: used to be 8th graders and above in age, then it went down to include 7th graders. Big change when that happened. Now, the age goes down to 6th grade, there will be another change. Kevin W.: it will be good for the younger ones to look up to the older kids at this type of event.
Fe Moncloa report:
Hilltop and Rucker have not yet sent in their enrollment info to the county, which means their members were not covered at the recent events and will not be covered until their club enrollment is entered in the county data base.
Timely Topics article: food safety training April 13th, and Dan will be helping Fe to put it on. If person in charge of event which sells food to the public attends, then they can train the individuals who work the event.

Marketing activities for the past month included meeting with the Fair marketing manager, to develop what the synergy between the FMC and the marketing project can be. Nina Frazer is working on "how to start a club" kit.
Lonnie T., Key Leader report: The 2001-2002 County 4-H Roster is out and is in
the mail to all 4-H households in the county..
A vote will be held soon by the FMC for the 3 day fair this year. Lonnie is on the board of the FMC.
Wendi Hill has offered to chair a petting zoo at the fair if it is allowed.
A proposal to segment the club enrollment activity into smaller pieces and time separated was brought to the Exec Board for review. Preliminary discussions indicated that many people had very strong feelings about the process, and there will be a more in-depth discussion scheduled for the next Exec Board meeting in April.
Tom Leisgang, County Poultry Chair, has requested that the Exec Board pass the Poultry Medalist Test as developed by the Poultry committee, and reviewed and recommended by the Awards committee. Motion - " The Executive Board accepts the recommendation of the awards committee and accepts the Poultry Meldalist tests as submitted." Motion was seconded and passed. Fe will review the tests for their "experiential learning" content.
Vicky B.: Storage unit costs for the area ran from $80 to $120 per month for a 10 ft x 10 ft first floor unit. Suggestions were that it would be cheaper to by new grills or the food booth each year than to pay the monthly costs of the storage unit. Another suggestion was that a shipping container be purchased and located somewhere on the fairgrounds. Discussions will continue at a later time.
Fair discussions:
Lonnie T. went over the details of the auction balance sheet for this year's
fair. She had just received it, and had many questions of the FMC as to the meaning of many of the line items. She will report back any clarifications she receives to the Exec Board.
One area of discussion with Eileen of the FMC was the issue of Awards night. The suggestion was made that there be two nights - one for animal awards and one for stills awards.
The Food Booth is being viewed by the Exec Board as a service to the 4-H families for this year's fair. Since the expectation is that there will not be much profit obtained from the food booth this year, Exec Board will not retain any of the profits. All monies made will be divided among the clubs that work the food booth this year. A motion to this effect was presented, seconded and passed.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:43 pm.
Paradise Valley is scheduled for refreshments for March 4-H council meeting
Respectfully submitted,
Gary Lang
