Proposed increase in county council fees. Food Booth income is gone. In order to meet our budget, we need to double the fee to county council from individuals. Probable increase in our costs due to the requirement that we cover the cost of publications for the county 4H activities. No increase in fees since 1994. Flat fee of $15 per person (leader and member)
April 24th reports -> many club activities - given during role call.
President's report -> WRLF 2005 in Sac -> opportunities for helping. 4H tote bag to all attendees need to be made.
Board of Supervisor's meeting overview: 35 to 40 4H representatives there. Steve Nations, Maria de la Fuente were also there. State ambassadors to 7 and 8 year olds spoke, as well as leaders. Great endorsement from all 5 supervisors. Pete McHugh was still of opinion that 4H should be unbundled from the rest of UCCE. The supervisors basically instructed Greg Vonwessonhove to find the money to keep the cooperative extension going this coming year. Many extra people came to hear the presentations, which were being piped thru the rest of the building. Great speeches by our State Ambassador Laura Carey about how the UCCE should not be unbundled.
Fair petting zoo: Permit application is in. have an assigned space. need a health permit. Vicky B. will not be the chairperson for the petting zoo, so we need a volunteer to spearhead the event. Just about any animal would be OK. Fencing from Homesteaders. Shade can be from the two 10x20 ft shades.
If Vicky does not get a chairperson by June 1, we will withdraw our application. It may have been secured by a non-refundable $500.
Large Animal Field Day: Vet discussions, nutritionist from Nutrina. small discussion groups. New category of meat goats was discussed. 82 people attended. 21 of those from FFA. Prizes were given to everyone who attended. two sets of electric shears and two $200 gift certificates to Sam's Feed store, and another $50 gift certificate.
Small Animal Field Day: More than 100 people attended the event. There were two vets at the event. Poultry expert there to help to show the participants how to look for good birds. Poultry is back in the fair this year, so the event was a good predecessor to the fair. New requirement for the fair is a pre-registration inspection of all animals coming into the fairgrounds. All poultry has to be "Market Standard."
Key Leader: Pot Luck party idea was thrown around -> if we get thru the financial gauntlet, we should celebrate. Prusch Park may be available.
Community Club Leader Training may be delayed until after July 1, to make sure that we all focus on the financial issues until then.
4-H Summer Camp: Cook -> Marie Mclintock and her mom will be the cooks. Remember that Camp Staff members need to submit a camper’s application. Ideas were brought up as to how to memorialize Dan Chitwood's legacy.
All-Stars: Interviews 23 May at Teagle house.
State Ambassador: SLC -> Daring to Lead is the topic. Applications are available on line.
DV: DV Team to UC Davis to give presentation at CE meeting: 150 people from 7 states, reps from National 4-H, etc.
Clover Foundation Scholarship application deadline extended.
Motion made to increase fees to $15 for each leader and member. An item of discussion was to add a line on the enrollment form for donations. Some concern was voiced to large families that would be hard to come up with that much money.
Motion passed unanimously.
Flag Day: costs us $480 to sponsor a flag -> Raised at county building in San Jose.
Nominating committee needs be formed. Shelby Jones accepted the appointment as chair for the committee.
