What is the
Design Contest?
The Design Contest is a sewing contest in which the 4-H’er uses his/her
imagination to change their outfit in someway to express their
creativity. During the contest, the 4-H’er is interviewed by the judges
and are asked a few simple questions about their outfit. Then, the
judges inspect the inside and outside of the garments. The winner is
chosen based on their construction, overall appearance, creativity, and
modeling of their outfit. The Design Contest Chairman and the committee
members select patterns for the contestants, one for the girls & juniors
and one for the boys, to use that year.
For changing the selected patterns, some
suggestions are to vary the length of the garment, add or change
pockets, add buttons, apply trim, embroidery, etc. There is a Fashion
Show at the end of the Competition and awards are given out. Awards
