What is a Fashion Revue?

The Fashion Revue is an event for those enrolled in 4-H to highlight their efforts and to develop self-confidence and poise.  Members have the opportunity to model the garment(s) they have made or purchased and to present themselves at their best in personal grooming, posture, modeling, and accessorizing their garment. The day is one of learning, as well as competing. Instruction will be given, especially to the Beginners, on how to model.  All entrants will receive written, constructive comments on their outfits. Members must be enrolled in the 4-H Youth Development Program.  Garments must not have been shown in a previous Fashion Revue.

There are three major categories of competition to enter.  Contestants must select or construct and model their own garments.  Members may enter in any one or more of the following:

  • Purchased: members purchase an entire outfit (including accessories, shoes, etc.) with a maximum spending limit of $75 for Juniors (9-11 yrs.) & Intermediates (12-13 yrs.) and $150 for Seniors (14 & up). Keep all receipts; they are required for judging. Everything visible must be included in the purchased list, including jewelry. Clovers may enter the Purchased category. Maximum spending is $75.  They will receive participation certificates and are not eligible to go on to the State Fashion Revue.

  •

  • Recycled: at least 50% of the outfit must be altered to be eligible. Take an outfit and reconstruct it to make a new outfit. Before and after photographs required

  •

  • Traditional: members sew an outfit for themselves.

  •

  • Wearable Art – Needle Arts: Use needle arts, i.e. knitting, crochet, weaving, etc. to create a garment(s)

  •

  • Wearable Art – Embellished Clothing: Decorate a garment(s) using arts and crafts techniques.

  •

  • Non-Wearable Arts - Pillows, crotched & knitted items, purses, quilts, etc.

  • For all Categories: 1. One entry per participant per category

  •                                 2. The outfit must be created and coordinated by the participant

There are four levels of competition in the Traditional and Recycled categories and three levels of competition (Beginner - Senior) in the Purchased category.

Clover -    Any contestant 5 to 8 years old.

Beginner- Any contestant 9-11 years old.

Junior -    Any contestant 12-13 years old as of January 1, 2005.

Senior -    Any contestant 14 and above as of January 1, 2005.

Contestants are awarded a Gold, Blue, Red, or White award according to the point count. Each judge will have a judging sheet for each participant on which to make comments.

Bonus points may be given at the judge's discretion for difficult or creative features well done.

Gold Medal winners may advance to the Sectional Fashion Revue.
