The 4-H Community Comes together during the Holiday
A Christmas knowledge bowl, gift exchange and pizza were on the agenda at the Hughson 4-H Community Meeting held on Wednesday, December 17th, 2008.
The next sense of community came in the form of the holiday canned food drive. Ideas were collected for the local food pantry. Coat for kids and eye glasses were also collected as part of 4-H members Emerald Star Project. In addition, to the local efforts over 300 items were donated for the solders.
The most fun and coolest activity was the Hughson 4-H float in the Turlock Community Christmas Parade. Over 40 members and parents decorated the float and participated in the parade. The trailer for the float was designed and constructed by the Hughson 4-H welding projects with the direction of Scott Leach, welding project leader.

On January 10-11, 2009 Zach and AJ Rose attended the Gold Coast Poultry Fanciers show in Hollister, California. The show consisted of almost 1,000 entries made up mostly of chickens but did include a few ducks, geese, turkeys and pigeons. AJ entered in 9 of his Sumatra breed of poultry into the show and received awards including “Best of Variety” and “Reserve of Variety”. Zach entered in 25 of his chickens and had great results also. Zach’s rare breed of Cubalaya’s took Best of Breed and Junior Champion in his class. Both boys were able to work as Judging Clerks, which allows them hands on experience in judging poultry with professional judges. They both look forward to the next show coming up in Stockton, CA in a couple of weeks.
